What You Should Know About Fashion Color Maintenance

Fashion colors are bold, creative, and undeniably fun. Whether you’re living in a vibrant red, deep blue, rich green, or soft pastel pink, we love bringing these tones to life at Moef Salon. But with all that vibrancy comes responsibility because fashion color is high-maintenance and requires a little planning to keep your hair healthy and your color fresh.

Darker Pigments Last Longer Than Pastels

One of the most important things to know is that not all fashion colors last the same amount of time. Rich, darker colors like deep purples, reds, and blues have more pigment and tend to hang on longer between visits.

Pastels, on the other hand, are very diluted versions of those colors. They fade fast, especially if your hair is super porous or if you’re washing it often. Think of pastel hair like watercolor on paper beautiful but delicate. A lavender shade can sometimes not make it past your very first shampoo.

If you love a soft lilac, mint, or baby pink, just know you’ll need more frequent touch-ups but typically fade really pretty on healthy hair.

Stay in the Same Color Family When Possible

If you’re someone who likes to change it up, we totally get the excitement. But every time you switch from one bold shade to a completely different one like teal to coral or magenta to silver you’re likely looking at another round of bleaching to remove the previous pigment. That repeated lightening can weaken your hair over time and lead to damage or breakage.

That’s why we recommend staying in the same color family for a while if you’re maintaining a fashion tone. Going from red to copper or violet to blue allows us to build on your existing color without having to strip everything out and start over.

Healthy Hair = Better Color

Fashion color looks best on hair that’s strong, moisturized, and cared for. We’ll always recommend a good color-safe shampoo, washing in cool water, and using deep conditioning masks regularly to preserve vibrancy and prevent dryness.

And don’t forget heat protection when styling. Hot tools can speed up fading and stress your strands even more. Keep your hot tools at 300º and below and always use protection.
